We’ll set out on a scenic four-hour drive, rolling through charming landscapes before arriving in the beautiful coastal town of Chincoteague, VA — your home for the next leg of this journey.
Once we arrive, you can settle into your hotel and unwind, or head out for a little exploring to get a feel for the island’s easygoing vibe. Your guide will share all the details you’ll need for the days ahead, including how our plans follow the rhythm of the tides — high tide, low tide, and the peaceful ebb tide in between. Because life here moves with the water, our on-the-water activities may shift a bit depending on the tides.
We’ve built in plenty of “free time” and “leisure time” so you can add your own personal touches to the trip. Whether that means relaxing with a book, taking a walk on the beach, or sampling local flavors, your guide will have great suggestions to make it unforgettable.
Morning: We’ll kick off the day with a visit to Merritt Harbor, where we’ll hop aboard a comfy boat for a relaxing cruise along the scenic Assateague Channel. Keep your eyes peeled — you might spot wild ponies, playful dolphins, or flocks of seabirds along the way!
Afternoon: After our time on the water, we’ll head over to the beloved Island Creamery for a sweet treat adventure. You’ll get a behind-the-scenes peek at how their famous ice cream is made, then (the best part!) sample some of their delicious, homemade flavors.
Morning: We’ll start the day by heading to the dock, making a quick stop at the charming Hill House — the oldest building on Chincoteague Island. Then it’s time to hop aboard our boat for a real hands-on adventure! We’ll cruise out to a clam bed in the Assateague Channel, step right into the water, and try our hand at clamming. Along the way, you’ll learn all about the clamming trade, the vital marsh ecosystem — known as the ocean’s nursery — and even discover a few edible plants hiding there.
Afternoon: After our morning on the water, we’ll explore some of Chincoteague’s historic treasures, including the Carnival Grounds, Beebe Ranch, and the Museum of Chincoteague Island. Weather permitting, we’ll hop off the bus at one or two stops for a closer look. Today you’ll get up close and personal with fascinating local sea creatures, then enjoy a fun and informative tour on crabbing — complete with a live demonstration so you can see exactly how it’s done.
From there, we’ll wander through the lively Farmer’s Market, where you can browse stalls brimming with fresh seafood, colorful fruits and veggies, handmade crafts, and unique souvenirs, discover how aquaculture shapes the island’s culture and cuisine. Then it’s back to the hotel to relax and enjoy the evening at your own pace.
