We’ll enjoy a scenic two-hour journey before arriving in San Diego, a Southern California resort, for the next leg of your journey.
You can settle in and relax at your hotel that night, or explore the surrounding area. Your guide will provide you with all the necessary information and discuss your plans for the next few days.
Morning – History & Harbor Views
Kick off the day with a fun guided tour that brings San Diego’s history to life. From the indigenous Kumeya’i village to the Spanish era, and through both Mexican and American times, you’ll see how this coastal city has evolved over the centuries. Then, we’ll hop aboard a boat for a breezy one-hour cruise around San Diego Bay. Whether you sit inside or out on deck, you’ll be treated to gorgeous skyline views as we sail 13 miles across the bay. Along the way, we’ll pass Harbor Island, Shelter Island, Cabrillo National Monument, and even the famous tall ship Star of India. Keep your camera ready—you might spot sea lions lounging near Point Loma! You’ll also get a glimpse of San Diego’s strong naval roots as we cruise past North Island Naval Air Station and the Nuclear Submarine Base.
Afternoon – Old Town & Little Italy
After soaking up the ocean air, we’ll head to Old Town and step into the heart of San Diego’s Italian heritage. We’ll stroll past historic Italianate homes, pause at Piazza Basilone, and admire the charm of a centuries-old Catholic church. We’ll kick off the day with an adventure on the USS Midway Museum, one of San Diego’s most legendary attractions. Step aboard this massive “floating city” and dive into nearly 50 years of naval history. With our guide leading the way, we’ll explore everything from the crew’s dining hall and sleeping quarters to the hangar deck, flight deck, and towering island superstructure. Along the way, you’ll get a real feel for life at sea and the incredible stories behind this longest-serving Navy aircraft carrier of the 20th century.
Afternoon – A Wild Encounter at the San Diego Zoo
In the afternoon, get ready for a visit to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, a place where animals live in lush, natural-style habitats. Afterward, we’ll journey to the southern tip of the Point Loma Peninsula to visit the Cabrillo National Monument. Here, we’ll explore the historic lighthouse—one of the original eight on the entire West Coast!—and learn about the legendary Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. It’s a perfect mix of stunning ocean views and rich California history.
