About the tour
Building Confidence & Connection at One Week Sleepaway Camps
In our one-week sleepaway camps, campers learn, grow, and have fun participating in AstroCamp’s most popular hands-on outdoor adventure and summer STEM activities. They also have the opportunity to choose their own adventure from our unique staff-created electives.
Our counselors and instructors will guide campers through a week filled with exploration, adventure, and connection.
Key Learning Objectives
● Atmosphere & Gases Lab:
In our most requested class, learn about planetary atmospheric conditions and states of matter. Hands-on experimentation allows students to learn about temperature, pressure, density, and other gas properties.
● Telescopes & Star Nights:
In our signature evening program, take a short night hike up to one of the Telescope Viewing Areas. Learn how to use binoculars and telescopes to view deep-sky objects. Each group gets its own telescope station consisting of 2 telescopes and 5 binoculars. View images taken with our digital telescope cameras (CCD).
● Micrometeorites:
Learn about meteors, meteorites, asteroids, and comets at AstroCamp. Use magnets and microscopes to collect and identify possible micrometeorites.
● Light & Lasers Lab:
Learn about the physical properties of light by experimenting with lasers, ultraviolet lights, spectrum glasses, an infrared camera, a phosphorescent wall, and more!
● Microgravity:
Learn about buoyancy and experience the challenge of constructing a mock satellite in a neutrally buoyant environment. Swimsuit required.
