Here at Disney Imagination Campus, our Science and technology curriculum offers the best of high-tech, low-tech, multidisciplinary, and experiential learning opportunities that teach students to become both creative and critical thinkers. Students will learn how Disney Imagineering—one of the world’s most creative organizations—uses science and technology to create your favorite attractions, like Space Mountain and Matterhorn Bobsleds.
Students will see science come to life. They’ll find out how Disney professionals come up with their ideas, how they create them, and how their success is the result of their relentless pursuit of “What if?” Empowered by our fully integrated curriculum, they’ll experience personal growth and professional insights that only Disney can provide.
Science Workshop Features
From thrilling attractions to iconic entertainment, Disney parks are dynamic, real-world physics laboratories. In this unique science workshop, which takes place inside a Disney theme park, students explore the principles of physics, learning the kind of hands-on physics Disney Imagineers use to create new attractions and enhance classic ones.
Key Learning Objectives
After completing the Physics of Disney Parks workshop, students will be able to:
● Participate in various hands-on opportunities to apply the scientific method
● Collaborate with peers in creative problem-solving scenarios
Take part in brainstorming sessions to design attractions
● Hypothesize, analyze and experiment to uncover how specific theme park attractions and entertainment work
● Create concepts for a new Guest experience
● Define speed, velocity, acceleration, inertia, force, friction and more
● Compare and contrast attractions and the principles of physics governing them
Technology of Disney Parks
Get an inside look at how our Disney Imagineers dream, design, and use their storytelling skills and practice techniques to bring beloved Disney characters and stories to life.
Key Learning Objectives
After completing the Technology of Disney Parks workshop, students will be able to:
● Describe Walt Disney’s contributions to the creation and progress of technology in Disney Parks’ attractions and experiences
● Define the difference between hydraulics and pneumatics—and explain the benefits of each
● Understand the emotional impact sound and light can have in an attraction
● Gain knowledge of the history and evolution of theme park technologies
● Explore the versatility of a specific technology by seeing how it’s used in vastly different ways
● Explain how acoustical engineering applies to the design of spaces.
The Physics of Disney Parks workshop at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and the Physics of Disney Parks workshop at Disneyland Resort in California are available for middle school and high school students. However, the course can be adapted for students in 4th and 5th grades.
The Disneyland Resort in California offers the program for middle school, high school, and college students. However, it can also be adapted for students in the 5th grade.
A minimum of 15 students is required per organized group to participate in one of these physics workshops.
